Project Overview

Dos Mundos is an editorial project exploring the experience of growing up in America as the child of two Mexican immigrant parents . Through personal stories and reflections, it offers an intimate look into identity, culture, and the complexities of navigating life between two worlds.

Design Approach

My goal for this project was to visually create a sense of tension between two cultures, allowing each element in the design to reinforce that feeling. For typography, I chose a blackletter typeface for titles and headers and paired it with a monospace body typeface to contrast heritage and corporate America. The color palette follows the same concept: Using primarily black contrasted with bright saturated imagery. The use of pixels and the text boxes positioned close to the page edge further express the feeling of tension, imbalance, and uncertainty. The editorial comes to a conclusion with a transition of full-page color, representing acceptance and harmony between both sides of my identity.
